After a Word or Two… We’re Back!
Today’s blog post is brought to you by the letters R and Y and the number 6.
I am simply enthralled by this image from Alex Gray. If you click on the image above, it’ll take you to the product page for the fine art print of the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors’s online store.
I bought the art blanket in this print and it’s absolutely the best blanket I have ever owned. I love it.
Since I’ve been gone, I’ve been fairly busy. I’ve decided to finally take myself seriously as a writer. And, to do that, I took a class in which I was expected to produce work — to produce stories.
Yeah, I know. I’ve wanted to be a writer all my life. Surely writing short stories is an easy thing for me, right?
Well… it’s not.
That being said, I busted my ass the last nine months or so and I have seven unique drafts of stories that I can work on finishing.
That’s right — I have SEVEN.
Note: these are seven stories I want to work on and polish off to send somewhere in the near future. I never have this many arrows in the fire — I typically would have given up by now and gone back to my ADHD’s two favorite pasttimes: doomscrolling Facebook and piecing together the soap opera that is United States politics. Don’t get me wrong — I’m still doomscrolling and watching the theatrics.
Just not as much.
And I want to give credit where credit’s due:
Richard Thomas’s Contemporary Dark Fiction class at Storyville Online.
This has probably been the best money I have spent toward my writing career because it’s helped me with my writing mindset. Richard has been kind and patient with both me and my writing. And, to be honest, from where I was at the beginning of the class to now? I think I’ve come away a stronger writer as well as a stronger reader which was exactly where I needed to be right now.
I really feel as though I leveled up through the class, and now, taking his Advanced Creative Writing Workshop, I’m expecting to level up some more.
I have plans. And I want to bring you along for the ride.
I am going to take you with me on my walk through The Best of Horror and Dark Fantasy, The Best Science Fiction Stories, and The Best Short Stories of 2021, as well as book reviews, author interviews, updates and more.
And we are open yet again!
